If you are a blogger or influencer, you have probably been told every single time the subject of monetization comes up that “you need a product”.
And if you are anything like me, you nodded your head in agreement.
I do need a product!
And when the product fairy didn’t place the perfect product under your pillow that night, you pushed the idea back down your massive to-do list as an I-will-definitely-get-to-creating-a-product-this-decade kinda thing.
You DO Need a Product
Bloggers are dealing with decreases in traffic from social platforms as a trend. All of the newer social media platforms don’t prioritize links which is the primary source of blog traffic for many of us. So, if the traffic trends are decreasing, what hope do we have?
The good news is in general traffic monetization has increased over time. I remember being really excited about an RPM over $3. Thankfully, it is often 10x that today.
So, the goal has been to increase the amount you receive per visitor.
Then if you have a traffic dip, Facebook hates you or Pinterest lost your links, you are still bringing in consistent income.
And that is where this magical product comes in.
What if you could find something that had even a .5% conversion rate? Even if it was only $5. When you start doing math, you can see adding $5, $10…$50 a day builds up really quickly when traffic is measured in the thousands.
You Don’t Need to Over-Think a Product
I have learned from selling millions of dollars of stuff on the internet that we always OVER-THINK everything.
The basics of social selling…
- You have followers, readers, a community of people that have things in common.
- They either like you or they like your community which establishes a connection…which equals a bit of trust.
- If you were selling something that was a good fit for them and they knew about it, they would likely prefer to buy it from you.
“But I Have Tried Selling Something and My People aren’t Buyers”
Except for the fact that every single person that reads your blog, follows you in Instagram and subscribes to your email list bought something today from someone.
Yep, the hard truth is that it isn’t them, it is you…
