About a week and 1/2 after FB live rolled out to all pages, I had logged about 15 hours of live broadcasting between my pages: Holly Homer & Quirky Momma.
And then I got a phone call…from Facebook.
“Thanks for taking my call.”
{Holly nearly fainting}…OF COURSE! YOU ARE FACEBOOK!
Facebook was extending a very mysterious and vague invitation to me to join them for a mysterious and vague event.
I am in.
{OK, I am in after I googled to verify that it was ACTUAL Facebook and not some freaky spam thing like the guys who are willing to deposit large sums of money into my bank account just so they can get their money out of their palace in a mysterious and vague country.}
They sent plane tickets and hotel reservations.
But no more details.
I really didn’t mind. I was up for whatever adventure Facebook had in mind.
My arrival in Hollywood was uneventful. I checked into the W Hotel. I walked over to the first meeting place which was a restaurant a few steps from the W for a cocktail party and dinner.
One of the greatest pleasures to-date has been walking into a restaurant and saying, “I am with the Facebook event.”
I was lead to an open air courtyard…the kinda thing that only exists in L.A…tables, chairs, trees, twinkle lights surrounded with tall brick walls of other buildings.
And then the introductions began. I was so excited, I even accidentally introduced myself to an unsuspecting waiter.
There were 20 early-adopting FB live influencers.
I was the only blogger.
Every single one of the people at that table were possibly the most fascinating person I have ever met.
It was like one of those dream dinner parties…you know, the ones where you choose the people you want to talk with over an amazing meal.
Each influencer was using FB live in a different way.
The next day was the big FB announcement event. It is all a blur to me now, but what an amazing opportunity to be involved in the chaos and fun.
The things that are coming to FB live are game-changers…as if the platform isn’t enough!
The ones I am most excited about is a discovery page for live video that will be categorized by 14 different categories. It will help people find things that they want to watch whether or not they already follow the page.
Genius!
There is also rumblings of brining the ability to record to desktop.
It is all good.
Very, very good.
And I went home inspired to try new things and grateful to have met so many amazing people.
Thank you Facebook!
