Hi!
Today I want to share with you the secret to my success. Over the next few days I’m going to share with you some of the most important principles that I’ve used to grow my online business.
As most of you know, I started my blog by accident over 17 years ago, but in that time I’ve grown it to one of the biggest blogs in the parenting space. I want to show you how, so that you can do the same!
Let’s start with the most important principle of all:
Do more of what works, and less of what doesn’t.
Seems simple, but takes more focus and effort than you might initially think.
You see, building a blog, a social media following, a customer base – they don’t just happen by accident. It may seem that way with some of the people you follow online, but that isn’t a helpful mindset.
In reality, building anything requires that you pay attention to what’s working and then consciously decide to do more of it.
So, when you post, that means tracking the results of how many views, how much engagement, and how many link clicks {don’t yawn! This is actually the FUN part where you can see even really small changes quickly!}.
It means knowing what you’re optimizing for, because follower growth is a very different – and sometimes unrelated – goal than optimizing for sales and revenue.
One example where I used this principle is when I was growing the Quirky Momma FB page. We would post something on the page and then come back a few hours later to see how it did. If it did well, I would go find something similar to post again. If it didn’t do well, I would look and see if I could figure out why and repost that same thing a different way later OR try and figure out if my FB followers just weren’t into that type of post! It was this simple system that allowed the Quirky Momma FB page to grow to over 3.5 million followers.
So, what are you wanting to focus on most right now? How can you measure your efforts to see if they’re working? What can you try that’s a different approach?
Hint: in tomorrow’s note I’ll share the fastest way to learn and grow, so that you can shortcut decades into just days and skip all of the trial and error that I and others went through to get where we are.
See you then!
{hugs}
